I browsed youtube and found some guides to get an understanding of the game. I'm not a modder myself but the titles I like to play have huge modding communities so I'm really never out of new things to try out. Modding is another thing that enhances the gaming experience and makes the joy of playing last a hell of a lot longer. I got some of the new titles of series that were out there since ages like the civ games (which are very easy to master) and still didn't get to play them because of my lack of willpower. Maybe it's the very steep learning curve they have, maybe it's me that I'm getting old and I'm not really interested in gaming anymore, but I find myself totally out of determination when it comes to learning a new game. I might be a slow and sloppy learner, but after years of playing EU(2-3-4) there are still new things I discover and play around to know them well. This is because those titles are so much detailed and make you able to play them many times without letting you have the same experience. Whenever my lust of gaming comes up, I dig up my old and trusted main titles and play them over and over again till I'm satisfied and start getting bored of it once again.

I am very lazy though and don't really get into searching for new games. I am someone who's into JRPGs, WRPGs, Real-Time strategy games, Turn-based strategy games, open world type games and sandbox style games. Reminder that this is not advertisement, DF and it's modifications are all 100% open source.ĭwarf Fortress w/ Phoebus Graphics Mod Download: Figuring out how to get this game going is the most difficult part of playing, so I'm providing links to the most popular pre-graphic-modded version of Dwarf Fortress, a quickstart guide, and a flowchart, because I want to see if maybe one person might happen to get in on all of the fun us DF players are having. Fortunately, there are graphics packs that solve this. The game is completely open source, and utilizes ascii graphics which are literally painful to most gamers. Only one thing is for certain, and that is that your fortress will inevitably collapse, but the game's motto happens to be "Losing is Fun!" which is very, very true. It's definitely the most dynamic game in existence, as the possibilities of what can happen during a game of Dwarf Fortress are endless. The game is in real-time, but much of the management of your dwarves and the terrain occurs while paused.

The world is three-dimensional(though the graphics certainly are not), and very alterable. Your dwarves each have individual personalities that influence their behavior, and each have individual skills.

All you need is time, patience, concentration, more patience, more time, more patience, and then the fun starts to kick in like you've never felt fun in any kind of game ever before.įor those who don't know what Dwarf Fortress is, it's an open source micro-management simulation where you govern the lives of a caravan of dwarves settling in a unfamiliar and treacherous terrain. So I'm going to try to make it as easy as possible for people here to get into it. If you are someone who's into these kinds of games, I'm letting you know, Dwarf Fortress is a combination of all of these things and is superior to all games in all of these genres. I don't expect most of you to get into it, I hardly expect any of you to even try and figure it out, but I'm going to give it my best shot. So! From what I can tell, this forum has a severe lack of experience in playing the game that has the more fun than any other game ever made.
